Gibson SJ-200 60s Original in a timeless Heritage Cherry Sunburst!
The legend of the Gibson SJ-200—better known as the King of the Flat-Tops —lives on in the SJ-200 60s Original . Since its introduction in 1937, this iconic model has set the standard for what a large acoustic guitar can and should be. A standard that is rarely equaled today.
The SJ-200 60s Original pays tribute to the 1960s era, when this guitar was in the hands of greats like Pete Townshend, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and Jimmy Page. This is the instrument you hear on countless legendary songs and albums – a sound deeply ingrained in music history.
In terms of construction and finish, every detail is perfect. The back and sides are made of AAA flamed maple, with the characteristic checkerboard marquetry down the center of the back. The solid AAA Sitka spruce top provides strength, definition, and that recognizable SJ-200 sound. The guitar is finished in a stylish 1960s nitrocellulose lacquer, which not only looks beautiful but also contributes to the open tone.
The two-piece maple neck with walnut stringers has a comfortable round profile and a narrower 1.687-inch nut, just like the original SJ-200s from that era. This makes chords in the first position noticeably easier and more relaxed to play. The rosewood fingerboard features the classic mother-of-pearl crown inlays—an unmistakable SJ-200 detail—and has 20 frets.
Visually, everything is perfect: the iconic rimless pickguard, the solid rosewood Moustache™ bridge with pearloid hourglass and teardrop inlays… this is pure SJ-200 aesthetics. Instead of a Tune-O-Matic™, a bone saddle was chosen, a conscious choice that many modern players will appreciate for its natural response and tone.
The hardware includes gold Grover® Rotomatic® tuners for reliable tuning stability, a bone nut, and TUSQ® bridge pins. For stage and studio use, the SJ-200 60s Original is equipped with an LR Baggs™ VTC pickup and preamp system with volume and tone controls, subtly integrated and ready for any situation.
