The California VM5 Masterpiece in Lake Placid Blue: Five-string Premium Bass with a Vintage Soul
The Sandberg California VM5 Lake Placid Blue Masterpiece is a five-string bass that brings together the best of both worlds: the vintage aesthetic of the California VM series and the premium finish of the Masterpiece line. Lake Placid Blue is a color with a timeless, retro look that looks just as good on stage as it does in the studio. Its Masterpiece status means Sandberg uses the finest wood selection and the most exquisite finish, making this instrument not only sound like a dream but look like one too.
The Alder body delivers the balanced, full tone that makes this wood so beloved among bassists: a warm low-mid, clear highs, and a tight, defined attack. The extra low B-string adds depth and weight without sacrificing definition, precisely what you expect from a well-built Sandberg five-string. The Maple neck with California VM profile plays fast and comfortably, while the Rosewood fretboard with Pearloid Dot inlays provides a warm, singing tone that beautifully contrasts with the directness of the Maple neck. The 14" radius and 34" scale length (864 mm) ensure a playing feel that works excellently for both funk and rock.
The Sandberg pickups in combination with the 2-band EQ (Volume, Balance, High, Low) give you direct control over your sound, from warm and round to clear and present. The Sandberg bridge and Sandberg Classic tuners complete the instrument with hardware that matches its vintage aesthetic. With 22 frets and the distinctive California VM neck, this is a bass that makes no compromises, both technically and visually.
The Sandberg California VM5 Lake Placid Blue Masterpiece is available for pre-order at Dijkmans Guitars. Estimated delivery time: Q4 2027.
