In very good condition, this limited edition Dead Spec Silver Sky!
In very good condition, this limited edition PRS Dead Spec Silver Sky – a special model developed for John Mayer's prominent work during Dead & Company's last tour. This special edition pays homage to the legendary sounds of Jerry Garcia and his iconic "Alligator" sound, but reinterpreted as a modern PRS.
Where a standard Silver Sky features an alder body, this Dead Spec is equipped with a lightweight swamp ash body. The Moc Sand satin nitro finish is thinly applied and subtly permeates the grain of the ash wood, providing open resonance and a lived-in look. The bridge is based on the PRS Gen III tremolo but is screwed to the body, functioning as a string-through hardtail. The retention of the brass tremolo block adds distinct warmth and musical depth to the tone.
Brass was also chosen for the nut end: both the nut and the string retainer bar are made of this material. This noticeably contributes to sustain, attack, and a full, rich tone. The result is a Silver Sky with more foundation, more punch, and a distinctive character.
The most distinctive element of this Dead Spec is undoubtedly the built-in Alembic Blaster preamp on the jack plate. This active boost can be engaged for extra power and offers an internally adjustable gain increase of approximately 3 to 14 dB. This gives the signal more body and presence, while maintaining full definition between notes. Moreover, the preamp compensates for signal loss that can occur when using long cables on larger stages. When disengaged, the circuit is completely bypassed.
Only 1,000 units of this model were built worldwide, making this PRS Dead Spec Silver Sky not only an exceptionally inspiring instrument but also a highly sought-after limited edition for enthusiasts and collectors. A unique opportunity to acquire a special piece of modern guitar history.
