Western Red Cedar and Indian Rosewood: The Warm Side of Taylor's Fifty-Year Legacy

The Taylor Legacy Series 815e stands out within the Legacy Series due to one striking choice: a Western Red Cedar top instead of the classic Sitka Spruce. Cedar responds softer and faster to touch, giving the 815e an immediate, warm tone that fully comes alive even with a light touch. Combined with Indian Rosewood back and sides, the result is a sound that is richer and rounder than the typical Taylor clarity—yet undeniably remains a Taylor. The first 20 units of each Legacy model are signed by founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.

The Cutaway Grand Auditorium body gives the 815e a versatile character: enough volume for strumming, but also the balance and articulation for fingerpicking and melody playing. The "old school" X-bracing enhances the organic, open character of the cedar top and gives the guitar a warmth that modern bracing systems consciously approach differently. The LR Baggs Element VTC ensures an amplified sound that leaves the acoustic qualities completely intact, without adding color.

The neck is mahogany with a West African Crelicam Ebony fretboard, a 1-3/4" nut and a 25-1/2" scale length. The body has a glossy finish, the neck a satin finish for a comfortable playing feel. D'Addario XS Coated Phosphor Bronze Medium strings and a luxurious Taylor Hardshell case are included.
