Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 – Punk attitude, classic feel
Mike Dirnt , bassist and co-founder of the legendary Green Day , has been a fixture on the rock scene for decades. His signature bass lines, energetic stage presence, and impeccable timing have defined the band's sound—from small clubs to international stages. Now, Mike has teamed up with Epiphone to revive his favorite bass: the Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 , a tribute to the Gibson Grabber G-3 he played on countless tours and on the iconic Green Day album Dookie (now celebrating its 30th anniversary).
The Grabber G-3 features a double-cutaway maple body , with a 34" three-piece maple neck and an ebony fingerboard (or maple on the Natural version), featuring 20 medium jumbo frets and black abalone dot inlays. The classic Grabber “V” headstock is equipped with open-gear tuners with vintage clover buttons and a boat nut for maximum tuning stability.
At the bridge end, you'll find a Leo Quan Badass II™ bridge , which provides increased attack, sustain, and full intonation and action adjustability. The strings run through the body for added resonance—exactly the solid, direct feel Mike Dirnt himself seeks in his bass.
At the heart of this bass are three Gibson G-3 pickups , handcrafted in the Gibson Pickup Shop in Nashville, Tennessee . They're wired in a unique "buck-and-a-half" configuration :
-
Top position – neck + middle pickups together (classic humbucker sound)
-
Middle position – all three pickups active for maximum punch
-
Bottom position – middle + bridge pickups (tight, aggressive tone)
With this setup, plus the master volume and tone controls , the Grabber G-3 offers a wide range of noise-free sounds – from vintage punch to modern clarity.
The Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 comes in a sturdy hardshell case, so you can safely take it to your next gig—whether that's a local show or the next world tour.
In short: a powerful, versatile bass with pure punk attitude and a classic Gibson vibe.
