Viking Red, Bigsby, and Murphy Lab aging: the '61 ES-335 in its most expressive form
The Gibson '61 ES-335 Murphy Lab Light Aged in Viking Red with Bigsby is for the guitarist who doesn't want to go halfway. The Viking Red finish is distinct and bold, the Bigsby tailpiece adds a dimension of expressiveness that the standard stop tailpiece lacks, and the Murphy Lab Light Aged treatment ensures the authenticity of a played-in vintage instrument. This is an ES-335 that stands out, both visually and sonically.
The '61 ES-335 has a slimmer neck profile than its predecessors: the Slim Taper 60s C-profile is thinner and faster than the '59's Medium C, giving the guitar a unique playing feel. The two Custombucker Alnico 3 humbuckers, unpotted and tuned to PAF specifications, deliver a dynamic sound with a rich midrange and a transparency rarely found in modern guitars. The 3-ply maple/poplar/maple body with a center block gives the guitar that characteristic blend of resonance and sustain.
Specs: mahogany neck, Indian Rosewood fretboard with dot inlays, 22 frets, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge with Bigsby tailpiece, Kluson Single Line Double Ring tuners, lightly aged nickel hardware, and paper-in-oil capacitors. Delivered in a hardshell case.
Viking Red, Bigsby, Murphy Lab. The '61 ES-335 as it's meant to be played.
