While the Junior was intended as a student model—simple yet high-quality—the Special offered a little something extra: two P-90 pickups, more tone controls, a pickup switch, and beautiful details like fingerboard binding and a pearloid Gibson logo on the headstock.

In 1958, the Les Paul Special received its signature double cutaway body , making the highest frets much more accessible. And in 1960, the SlimTaper™ neck profile was added: faster, smoother, and more comfortable than ever.

Today, Gibson is bringing this iconic guitar back to the core of its lineup—with everything guitarists then and now appreciate. The Les Paul Special Double Cut is built with a mahogany body and neck, perfectly balanced on your strap and offering direct access to the entire neck. The rosewood fingerboard is bound with 22 medium-jumbo frets and classic dot inlays. On the headstock, you'll find Gibson Vintage Deluxe tuners with white buttons and the stylish pearloid Gibson logo.
